by Declan Quinn
I walk along this winding road
Wind and snow tickle my face
This bleak white stretches for miles
Thoughts of discouragement slow my pace
Cold winds roar across the plain
Snow hiding the path I trace
I don’t recognize these surrounding
Looking around, I’ve lost my way
The cracked ice shows me my heart
Reflected back in a thousand shards
The powdered snow that swirls around me
Looks as far away as the stars
Cold winds whip past my face now
Howling whispers of ghosts long passed
Their shining eyes lose focus
A candle’s flame burns fast
There’s no one left to remember them
And so the candles burn…
Out.
