Monthly Prompts and Responses

March 2014:

A very important person in your life lays next to you, uttering his/her last words. What are the words? Who is the person? What is the setting? Write a story surrounding or leading up to this scenario.

Tell us about a situation where you’d hoped against all hope, where the odds were completely stacked against you, yet you triumphed.

Ever have an experience that felt surreal, as though you’d been suddenly transported into the twilight zone, where time seemed to warp, perhaps slowing down or speeding up? Tell us all about it. If you haven’t had an experience in real life that you can draw from, write a fictional account of a surreal experience.

You have 3 wishes, courtesy of the Writers’ Club. Your wishes cannot be “I wish for more wishes” or anything of that sort. What do you wish for?

January/February 2014:

Tell us about the experience of being outside, looking in — however you’d like to interpret that.

Write about fear or being lost.

Describe the one decision in your life where you wish you could get a “do-over.” Tell us about the decision, and why you’d choose to take a different path this time around.

Write a post that includes dialogue between two or more people — other than you.

You’re at the beach, lounging on your towel, when a glistening object at the water’s edge catches your eye. It’s a bottle — and yes, it contains a message. What does it say?

12/5/13: Write about evil.

11/28/13: Create a myth or legend or write about a time when you felt unsafe.

11/21/13: Write as if you were about to die.

11/14/13: Hemingway’s famous six-word story: “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.” Tell a story in just six words.

11/7/13: Khalil Gibran once said that people will never understand one another unless language is reduced to seven words. What would your seven words be?

10/31/13: Tell us your favorite joke and try to explain the joke without ruining it.

Our prompts are gathered from all sorts of places, some from our writers and others from other blogs (most often The Daily Post).
